"Bath Salts" or "synthetic cocaine" is the latest fad for getting high. Typically administered by snorting or injection, this synthetic powder is sold legally under a variety of names.

Portage Substance Abuse Prevention Coaltion - Members and input wanted
The Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services awarded a grant to the Portage County Mental Health & Recovery Board to build prevention capacity in Portage County and develop a strategic plan to implement effective programs, policies and practices that will reduce the number of 18-25 year olds engaged in high risk use of alcohol. Townhall II will implement the grant, including building a community coalition to guide the project. We are seeking interested community members to be part of the coalition, especially individuals who represent the following areas and are willing to be engaged in this effort over a 3-year period: Service Organizations, Families, High School Youth, Young Adults ages 18-25, Faith Community, Businesses, Media, Government representatives, Medical/Health Services, and Senior Citizens

Helpline Volunteer Training
Interested in volunteering on the Townhall II Helpline? Summer training is already under way, but applications can be submitted for fall 2011 training. An application and interview process is necessary. See the Volunteer Employment page for more information, or call 330-678-3006.

Power Walk for Diabetes
Team Townhall II gathered at the start of the Brimfield Lions Power Walk for Diabetes on April 30, 2011. The event raises money locally for diabetes. Proceeds are divided between Townhall II Free Clinic and the Robinson Memorial Hospital Maxine Lyman Fund. This year Townhall II Free Clinic received $3,800 from the event.
Townhall II offers Life-Style ABC's, an experiental diabetes prevention and education program, funded by Novo Nordisk.

Healing Hearts Mural on Display at Townhall II
Healing Hearts Mural, a multi-year collaborative project of the Arts Alive! Program, represents human journeys and healing, surrounded by downtown Kent landmarks. The mural was installed on the Townhall II building in June.
